Photon induced Lambda(1520) production and the role of the K^* exchange
We study the photon induced Lambda(1520) production in the effective
Lagrangian method near threshold, E_\gamma^{LAB}<2 GeV, and in the quark-gluon
string model at higher energies 3 GeV < E_\gamma^{LAB} < 5 GeV. In particular,
we study the role of the K^* exchange for the production of Lambda(1520) within
the SU(6) Weinberg-Tomozowa chiral unitary model proposed in Phys. Rev. D74
(2006) 034025. The coupling of the Lambda(1520) resonance to the N \bar K^*
pair, which is dynamically generated, turns out to be relatively small and,
thus, the K exchange mechanism dominates the reaction. In the higher energy
region, where experimental data are available, the quark-gluon string mechanism
with the K Regge trajectory reproduces both the energy and the angular
distribution dependences of the Lambda(1520) photo-production reaction.Comment: 20 pages and 6 page
Renormalization of vector fields with mass-like coupling in curved spacetime
Using the method of covariant symbols we compute
the divergent part of the effective action of the Proca field
with non-minimal mass term. Specifically a quantum abelian
vector field with a non-derivative coupling to an external
tensor field in curved spacetime in four dimensions is considered.
Relatively explicit expressions are obtained which
are manifestly local but non polynomial in the external fields.
Our result is shown to reproduce existing ones in all particular
cases considered. Internal consistency with Weyl invariance
is also verified. This work has been partially supported by the

Deeply bound levels in kaonic atoms
Using a microscopic antikaon-nucleus optical potential recently developed by Ramos and Oset [10] from a chiral model, we calculate strong interaction energy shifts and widths for K- atoms. This purely theoretical potential gives an acceptable description of the measured data (chi(2)/num.data = 3.8), though it turns out to be less attractive than what can be inferred from the existing kaon atomic data. We also use a modified potential, obtained by adding to the latter theoretical one a s-wave term which is fitted to known experimental kaonic data (chi(2)/degree of freedom = 1.6), to predict deeply bound K- atomic levels, not yet detected. This improved potential predicts, in general, states even narrower than those recently reported by Friedman and Gal [9]. This reinforces the idea that these deeply atomic states can be detected and resolved by using suitable nuclear reactions. Besides, we also study K- and (K) over bar(0) nuclear bound states and compute binding energies and widths, for both species of antikaons, in C-12, Ca-40 and Pb-208. Despite of restricting our study only to potentials obtained from best fits to the known kaonic atom data, the dynamics of these nuclear bound states depends dramatically on the particular optical potential used
SU(6) extension of the Weinberg-Tomozawa meson-baryon Lagrangian
A consistent SU(6) extension of the Weinberg-Tomozawa meson-baryon chiral Lagrangian is constructed which incorporates vector meson and baryon decuplet degrees of freedom. The corresponding Bethe-Salpeter approximation predicts the existence of an isoscalar spin-parity 3/2 K(*)N bound state (strangeness +1) with a mass around 1.7-1.8 GeV. It is the highest hypercharge state of an antidecuplet SU(3) representation and it is unstable through K(*) decay. The estimated width of this state (neglecting d-wave KN decay) turns out to be small (Gamma (K) over bar (0)pK(+)pi(-) by looking at the three body pK(+)pi(-) invariant mass
S = -1 meson-baryon scattering in coupled-channel unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory
The s-wave meson-baryon scattering amplitude is analyzed for the strangeness S = -1 and isospin I = 0 sector in a Bethe-Salpeter coupled-channel formalism incorporating Chiral Symmetry. Four two-body channels have been considered: (K) over barN, piSigma, etaLambda, KXi. The needed two-particle irreducible matrix amplitude is taken from lowest-order Chiral Perturbation Theory in a relativistic formalism. Off-shell behaviour is parameterized in terms of low-energy constants, which outnumber those assumed in previous works and provide a better fit to the data. The position of the complex poles in the second Riemann sheet of the scattering amplitude determines masses and widths of the Lambda(1405) and Lambda(1670) resonances which compare well with accepted numbers
CP violation in the effective action of the Standard Model
Following a suggestion by Smit, the CP odd terms of the effective action of
the Standard Model, obtained by integration of quarks and leptons, are computed
to sixth order within a strict covariant derivative expansion approach. No
other approximations are made. The final result so derived includes all
Standard Model gauge fields and Higgs. Remarkably, at the order considered in
this work, all parity violating contributions turn out to be zero. Non
vanishing CP violating terms are obtained in the C-odd P-even sector. These are
several orders of magnitude larger than perturbative estimates. Various
unexpected regularities in the final result are noted.Comment: 32 pages, no figures. Section added. To appear in JHE
estrategias

Effectiveness of a multifactorial intervention in increasing adherence to the mediterranean diet among patients with diabetes mellitus type 2: a controlled and randomized study (EMID Study)
The Mediterranean diet (MD) is recognized as one of the healthiest dietary patterns and has
benefits such as improving glycaemic control among patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Our aim is
to assess the effectiveness of a multifactorial intervention to improve adherence to theMD, diet quality
and biomedical parameters. The EMID study is a randomized and controlled clinical trial with two
parallel groups and a 12-month follow-up period. The study included 204 subjects between 25–70 years
with T2DM. The participants were randomized into intervention group (IG) and control group (CG).
Both groups received brief advice about healthy eating and physical activity. The IG participants
additionally took part in a food workshop, five walks and received a smartphone application for three
months. The population studied had a mean age of 60.6 years. At the 3-month follow-up visit, there
were improvements in adherence to the MD and diet quality of 2.2 and 2.5 points, compared to the
baseline visit, respectively, in favour of the IG. This tendency of the improvement was maintained,
in favour of the IG, at the 12-month follow-up visit. In conclusion, the multifactorial intervention
performed could improve adherence to the MD and diet quality among patients with T2DM.Regional Health Management through the 2016

Carbon-based biomass-derived catalysts for deoxygenation of fast pyrolysis bio-oil
Producing energy and chemicals from biomass is an interesting alternative for replacing conventional fossil sources with a renewable feedstock while enabling zero net greenhouse gases emissions. Particularly, fast pyrolysis of biomass waste enables the production of bio-oil, which can be upgraded to biofuels or value-added chemicals. The sustainability of this process can be enhanced by preparing carbon-based catalysts from the same biomass waste used as raw material for the biooil production, decreasing the inputs of the process and allowing recovery and recycle of the active phase by combustion of the carbon substrate. In this work, catalytic fast pyrolysis of olive stone residues was studied using mesoporous carbon-based acid catalysts prepared by activation with H3PO4 of olive stones.Universidad de Málaga.
